Community/Outreach Description

Detroit Community Outreach (DCO) is part of the Word of Life community in Ann Arbor, Michigan. It is a small community located in the heart of Detroit, with a few families, some single brothers and sisters, and a Servants of the Word household. Detroit Community Outreach maintains an outreach ministry to youth in the city called YouthWorks-Detroit.

YouthWorks-Detroit began in 1995 as Detroit Summer Outreach, hosting interns from around the country and the world for a common life of prayer and service to the young people of Detroit, but has expanded to include year round activities. YouthWorks-Detroit is a challenging environment where you will witness the transforming power of Jesus' love and grow in faith. A Gap year with us will change your life.

Job Description

Each Gapper's assignments will be made based on his or her interests and abilities, as well as our needs. The following is a list of possible responsibilities. Gappers will also participate in the Word of Life community/UCO-Ann Arbor life, as well as taking part in Gap training with other Gappers from around Michigan.

DCO Service
- Living and participating in household life of prayer and service
- Serving at events including Lord's Day, Prayer meetings

YouthWorks-Detroit Service
- Leading/Serving with Gospel Lords-High School Group.
- Participate in Conerstone Schools' EdifYouth retreats.
- Teach in after-school program.
- Build relationships with youth.
- Serve the poor/underprivileged with our Mercy Team outreach.
- Help host short term mission groups that come to Detroit.

Person Description

- You are at least 21 years old.
- You have a heart for reaching out to people.
- Member of a Kairos or similar ministry for at least 2 years.
- You desire to grow in your relationship with Jesus Christ.
- You are able to work independently and creatively to share the gospel.
-You are open to receiving training.
