Community/Outreach Desription

The Work of Christ (WOC) is our local Sword of the Spirit Community, and is the largest ecumenical community in North America. We run an active high school outreach, as well as children's programs for junior high on down to pre-schoolers.

Univeristy Christian Outreach (UCO) is our student outreach, and has a large chapter at Michigan State University. UCO has a growing staff and lots of great activities and life together.

In addition to the local program, Lansing is home to Kairos-the regional youth program of the Sword of the Spirit. Gappers will assist Kairos staff in planning and organizing regional youth conferences-namely the Winter Conference for university students , and the YES Retreat for high school students.

Job Description

Each Gappers assignments will be made based on his or her interests and abilities, as well as our needs. The following is a list of possible responsibilities. Gappers will also participate in the Work of Christ community/UCO-Lansing life, as well as taking part in Gap training with other Gappers from around Michigan.

Work of Christ/UCO Service
- Staff for CYA-the high school youth group of the WOC.
- Staff for Jr. High boys/girls.
- Volunteer for the Asaph project-an after school program for elementary students, with an emphasis on music.
- Cleaning the WOC office.
- Help execute UCO events and retreats.

Sword of the Spirit/Kairos Service
- Publishing assistant for Tabor House Publishing.
- Various projects at the Kairos office.
- Conference servant for regional conferences during the year.

Person Description

- You are at least 18 years old
- Willingness to serve in youth, university and regional programs
- Diligent Worker
- Familiar with desktop software
- Ability to edit/publish books a plus
- Creative a plus
